Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune.
(Deemed to be University)
Welcome to the DPU unit of International Chair in Bioethics. Since our inception of university in 1966, it’s been our mission to advance Bioethics through education, innovation, clinical application and thought leadership. The DPU unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, Haifa was established on 18th March 2015, under the chair of UNESCO.
Bioethics is perhaps more relevant now than it was 25 years ago with new health challenges facing all of us on a global scale – from pandemics to climate change to emerging AI and digital technology and a resounding call for social justice.
Bioethics and medical humanities fill a vital need by encouraging people to consider our humanity alongside the miracles and advances of medicine. Within our Vidyapeeth, we believe that ethics informs professionalism in medicine, clinical care, and biomedical research. Bioethics shapes the future of healthcare and bioscience. It is inspiring to see students and faculty alike of all colleges in the Vidyapeeth come together for such a dignified cause and pledge themselves to the cause of bioethics. Through exploration of the habitual and judicious use of communication, knowledge, technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotions, values, and reflection in daily practice we can improve the individual, community, and societal health and healthcare delivery.
I want you to amplify the voice of all the bioethicists within the Vidyapeeth and the Medical Centre. We are looking forward to the next couple of years, imagining what these years may hold and how we may hold ourselves true to our continuing commitment to contribute towards a positive change for health through bioethics both today and in the future. We believe in holistic development of students, inspiring young innovative minds and making them responsible citizens of the country- which is the aim of this bioethics unit.
I wish you every success and hope that you will see this Vidyapeeth as a place for your development into an empathetic, compassionate, and knowledgeable medical care provider.
