World Bioethics Day 2018

The Dr. D Y Patil Vidyapeeth, (DPU Unit) Pune of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics had organized a World Bioethics Day 2018 Celebration on 30th Oct. 2018 from 09: 00 am to 4:00 pm.

The event started with a street play of Undergraduate students of medical college in front of Dr.D Y Patil college and Hospital entrance. Students had given the message of solidarity and cooperation through various small acts in “‘NUKKAD” . Students, Patients, Relatives and staff appreciated the acts of students by a big round of applauds.

The World Bioethics Day celebration was conducted at College Auditorium of Dr. D Y Patil Medical College, Pune on 30th October 2018. The event was held under the guidance of Dr.Shailaja Mane, Professor, Dept.of Pediatrics and Secretary, DPU Bioethics Unit. The theme for the event this year was “ Solidarity and Cooperation”. The event commenced at 10:30 a.m. in the college auditorium. The respected dignitaries Honourable Vice – Chancellor Dr. P. N. Razdan, Dr.A.N.Suryakar( Registrar), Dr.D.Y.Patil Vidyapeeth, Dr.Derek D’Souza, Dr.Avinash D’Souza, Dr. Sanjeev Datye, Dean, Dr.JS.Bhawalkar and Dr.(Brig) Amarjit Singh ( Principal Director and CEO), Dr.P.Vatsalaswamy (Director of Academics) graced the auspicious occasion by their presence. The competitions were judged by Dr.Avinash Bhondave, Dr.Deepali Ambike, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Patil and Dr.Shubhangi Kothari. Advisors, faculties of steering committee of bioethics attended this function. Faculties and students of various colleges of DPU participated in this event actively.

The event began with a melodious invocation song by 5th-semester Undergraduate student Sagarika.The welcome address was given by Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar, Dean Dr. D Y Patil Medical College, Pune and Head DPU Bioethics Wing of the International Network of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Haifa.

The opening speech for the event was given by our Honourable Vice-Chancellor Dr.P.N.Razdan describing how University promotes Solidarity and cooperation in day to day life. Dr.Sanjeev Datye, President PCDA (Pimpri Chinchwad Doctor’s Association) and Secretary, Indian Medical Association, PCB

Had given a talk representing collaborating organisation. He highlighted the importance and opportunities in solidarity and cooperation in different pathies for better patient care. Dr. Derek D’Souza, Head, MIMER Bioethics Unit represented UNESCO chair in Bioethics and given his address to the gathering. He had stressed upon cooperation amongst each other and need of unity.

The prize distribution ceremony for the winners was commenced at the auspicious hands of dignitaries. Mr.Harsh Tyagi, General Secretary, Dr.D Y Patil Medical College, Pune was given a special award for the most active member of DPU Bioethics Students’ Wing of the International Network of UNESCO chair in Bioethics Haifa. He had actively participated in coordination and organizing various events with the help of student’s wing of bioethics in DPU. He is a joint secretary of Student’s wing of Bioethics as well.

The prize distribution was followed by a guest lecture which was given by Dr.Avinash D’Souza Sir, Associate Professor and Managing Editor of Global Bioethics Enquiry-The International Journal of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Haifa. He explained the benefits of cooperation in our workplace along with the methods by which we can work upon our attitude and turn it into a positive one by focussing on our psychological thinking abilities. Students had enjoyed his talk. Next was the vote of thanks which was given by Dr.Shailaja Mane, followed by a small brunch for all the dignitaries and participants at 1:00 p.m.

Post-brunch, there was a scientific paper presentation by Dr.Shefali Chettri and Dr.Neha. Later on, the short film of the International winning team “The Doctor” was screened for the audience. Many fascinating competitions like artistic poster making, scientific poster competition, scientific paper presentation, photography competition and short film competition making were conducted beforehand on 10th August 2018 in which Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy, Biotech, Homeopathy colleges participated enthusiastically. Display of Scientific and Artistic poster was done outside the auditorium. Exhibition of entries of Photography competition was done as well. Students explained the theme and their work to the viewers. It was very well appreciated by all.

All the participants were distributed their participation certificates by the judges of the various events.

The event ended with valedictory function and vote of thanks by Miss Srishti Mohapatra, General Secretary, Dr.D.Y.Patil Medical College, Pune and Secretary DPU Student’s wing Bioethics.
